Sri Lanka Tea Regions


Depending on elevation above the sea level of the tea plantation, teas produced there are classified into one of the three categories:

  – Low Grown

  – Mid Grown

  – High Grown

 There are seven principal tea producing agro-climatic regions in Sri Lanka:

  1. Nuwara Eliya – Western High Grown
  2. Uda Pussellawa – Uva High Grown
  3. Dimbula- Western High Grown
  4. Uva – Uva High Grown 
  5. Kandy – Mid Grown 
  6. Sabaragamuwa – Low Grown 
  7. Ruhuna – Low Grown
